Combatting Seasonal Affective Disorder

When the weather gets colder and the days get shorter, life can get a lot harder. The seasonal changes can really have more of an impact on your mental and physical health than you would think. These are little things to help battle your body’s response to the seasonal change but they can make a big difference when added together

  • wear bright colored clothes

  • listen to upbeat music

  • surround yourself with as much light possible

  • never take your shoes off during the day

  • force yourself to wake up, workout, then complete the hardest task you have to do for that day

  • create and complete a to-do list of miscellaneous chores when bored

  • call or spend time with a friend(s)

  • drink caffeine-free tea

  • create a vision board (positive affirmations required)

  • plan a detailed trip to take in the future

  • when the sun is out, bundle up and just be in the sun

  • read a self-help book

  • go to the craft store and find something to make to spark creativity

  • get a massage to release the stress and toxins built up in your body

  • stretch (you would be surprised how much this can help)

  • do your skin care

  • expose yourself to red light (boosts seratonin and dopamine levels)
