What You Need To Do NOW Before College

If there is one single piece of advice I could give anyone coming into their first year of college (or any year really), it is to become as healthy as can be and build your immune system starting NOW. College and freshman year is full of so much fun, but it is also full of frat flu, bacterial/viral infections, never-ending colds, brutal hangovers, and lots of lost voices (offsetting the rest of your body). When you get sick with these illnesses and infections, the common cure is prescription antibiotics. However, this isn’t a cure; it’s a temporary symptom treatment which actually hurts you more in the long run. Antibiotics not only strip down the bad bacteria in your body to eliminate whatever infection you may have, but also the good bacteria in your body that fights off infections in the first place. This leaves your immune system significantly weaker than ever.

The best way to do this is to:

1) incorporate more greens and nutrients into your diet

2) GET ON A CONSISTENT SUPPLEMENT ROUTINE.

I cannot emphasize that enough. I developed leaky gut during my sophomore year of high school which completely broke down all of the good bacteria in my gut and weakened my immune system. I was always sick, had a lot of stomach problems, and experienced a lot more anxiety. To be honest, I was so used to feeling that way that I didn’t even know how sick I was until after I healed my gut through the only way possible, holistically with supplements and improving my diet. However, going back to college and having to get on antibiotics 3 times within a number of months really stripped my gut again.

If you are looking for a place to go in the Atlanta area, I highly recommend visiting Lis Whitton-Frey at Down to Earth Health. Lis is an experienced traditional naturopath who has been treating me for almost four years now. I always get a Qest4 Biogenetic Testing + Wellness Consultation Appointment. I will say, the total cost of the appointment and supplements themselves can be pricey, but it is worth it because you are so much healthier and happier in the long run. If you prefer to not spend money, I highly recommend investing in a monthly subscription to Athletic Greens or Seed Probiotics. This is the best way to rebuild your gut full of nutrients and create a stronger, more invincible immune system if you cannot receive the specific nutrients your body lacks!!
